#vacationmode

Have you been following along with our #vacationmode challenge on Instragam this week? Cass and Erin are taking on the 5x5 challenge with new spin by limiting themselves even further: they're only able to style and accessorize their item with the other pieces they packed for vacation. Cass is spending the week at her family's lake house in New Hampshire, while Erin is coming to us from Martha's Vineyard, MA while on her family's annual beach vacation.

This week called for a little bit of coordination based on what was in their suitcases, so the girls had fun doodling out their planned outfits. Cass is wearing a beautiful vintage yellow floral maxi dress, while Erin is taking full advantage of being able to spend the next 5 days in nothing but a bathing suit...just like a beach vacation should be spent!

Erin's "Flawless" Tee

Last but not least--here we are recapping Erin's "Step Up Your Tee Game" challenge in the FLAWLESS tee that fit in perfectly with the ever-so-subtle and unofficial Jay Z/Beyonce theme of the week. Erin has been stepping up her overall 5x5 game recently rocking it for a couple weeks in a row and pushing the boundaries with patterns, skirt lengths and accessories. We ain't complaining girlfrand.

And last week was a big week for our little Foochie--she turned 25 years old! So, apologies if her photos lacked their usual style attention. Erin was recovering at the end of the week after drinking one to many adult beverages ;) As she should have been doing to celebrate! Here's to another 25 years of fabulous Fooch style!

Katie's "Don't Worry, Beyonce" Tee

Recapping Katie's 5x5 Challenge from last week's "Step Up Your Tee Game" theme. Katie absolutely crushed it, like we knew she would! Her tee was clearly a hit with our fans and followers. But we were most impressed with how Katie really mixed it up by channeling 5 different distinct looks. She was Patty Professional in a pencil skirt, boho chic with big patterned pants and straight outta the tabloids in her celebrity-inspired travel look (the fedora screams "get outta my face paparazzi").

We had so much fun with you Katie! We will definitely be challenging you to another 5x5 week soon.

Andi's "Less Crap, More Rap" Tee

Last week we asked our guests, Andi and Katie, to take on the 5x5 challenge with Erin for our "Step Up Your Tee Game" week. These two have some serious tees in their closet collections, so we figured they were the perfect duo to feature. Our tees unintentionally took on a sort-of "Jay Z and Beyonce" theme, so we had fun channeling everyone's favorite hip hop duo--despite rumors that Mr. and Mrs. Carter are on the rocks. WE REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT.

Today we're recapping Andi's 5x5 challenge in her grey "Less Crap, More Rap" tee. Homegirl crushed it pairing it with some seasonal summer trends (white pants, bare legs, strappy sandals) and basic classics (pencil skirts, black skinnies, boyfriend jeans).

Stay tuned later this week as we recap Katie and Erin's tee game!

Summer Scarves

There's really nothing to complain about in the middle of summer in New England. We look forward to these three precious months all year while we trudge to work in our Bean Boots and not-so-chic down parkas. So, it's probably not fair to Mother Nature when we still complain about the hot, sticky, humid weather in the middle of July. But there's honestly nothing less attractive than walking into work as sweaty as you did walking out of the gym an hour before. Upper lip sweat? Yep. We said it.

But then you sit in your office all day (womp womp) where the AC is cranked up as high as it can be and that sweat that was dripping down your back is essentially frozen now. Seriously, how does one dress for this, what shall we call it...Corporate Climate Change?

The answer:  SUMMER SCARVES.

The perfect solution to all your first world summer fashion problems. It's a chic alternative to a cardigan or sweater for when the AC unit is on "snowflake mode" or chilly nights sipping wine on a roofdeck. But the Summer Scarf is easy enough to stuff in (or tie on!) your bag for those patio lunch dates outside the office.

Check out how Erin rocked one of her favorite summer scarves for last week 5x5 challenge. It's a fun coral, tribal print hand-me-down from her big sister and proven to be one of her favorite summer staples the past few months.  Well done Foochie!

"Alex" by Jordie Rae

A little couzin luv to get through Hump Day today. Remember our San Francisco 5x5 Week with Erin's cousin, Jordan, last fall? She rocked the shit outta her five days in a bright orange knit crop sweater. Well, we thought we'd check back in with our readers to give you a little (read: huge, exciting, most amazing) update on what she's been up to since rockin' it on our little baby Instagram project. Mostly, Erin just needed an outlet to brag about how proud she is of her cuz! So, if you remember, Jordan is a fashion design student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco specializing in childrenswear. And last week she completed her senior thesis collection for the BFA Academy of Art University Spring Fashion Show!

A quick flashback to Jordan's 5x5 challenge

Jordan's featured collection, Alex, is unisex and designed for children aged 5-7. It combines oversized street wear silhouettes with bright, optical-illusion-based textiles.  We are beyond obsessed with how Jordan approached the stereotypically gendered children's fashion market with such a critical, detailed, artistic eye. She mentions how "throughout history, the children's clothing market has helped maintain the divide between the sexes, offering girls and boys either ultra-feminine or masculine products". Alex was created with a sportswear inspiration intended for all children to play together--regardless of gender. Amen to that, sista.

As a trio of 3 empowered fashionable feminists, we are in love with everything Jordie put together for Alex: the inspiration, the perspective, the designs, the pattern mixing, the textiles (by Sheni Moshabesha), and the cutest little models you ever did see on a runway...literally, ever. You know we love mixing patterns and bright colors, so if we could somehow fit into these petite pieces, we would absolutely try. And those baby white high-top Chuck Taylors? What little mini style ninjas Miss Jordie Rae created!

And take a look at some of the photos from the show last week and be sure to check out Jordan's site for her full portfolio and blog for recent updates. We've got a prettayyyyy good feeling this little design graduate is gonna make a huge splash in the fashion world, so make sure to follow along with her next big adventures!

Because being basic is boring.

I think it's safe to say that the "Basic Betch" theme was anything but basic for us 5x5 girls last week. Our mission for this whole FDFW fashion project that we've created is to really just provide inspiration. In today's fast-fashion world, it's so easy to think "I have NOTHING to wear" when you're starring into your massive closet full of clothes. Believe us, we've been there. But through Five Days Five Ways, we've forced ourselves to rethink how to repurpose. We love taking on the challenge with crazy printed items or silhouettes that are a bit more daring, but last week's basics-theme was also surprisingly super fun—and difficult. But hopefully, you had as much fun as we did following along all week and feel a little bit more inspired to try out some new ways to sport that LBD, classic blazer or basic tee that's been sitting in the back of your closet now.

If you missed any of the "Basic Betch" challenge over on Instagram last week, check out the full recap here. And join us as we pledge to never go basic ever again :)

(And huge, huge, huge thanks to Ashley Herrin with t.e.l.l. new england for taking all of Cass and Erin's photos this week. It's been such a blast shooting with Ashley and we are so excited for more fun in weeks to come!)
